Ahhh… the Eagle Bar Diner, somewhere I’ve been yearning to try since I heard it mentioned in the same breath as Byron who despite their London chain status, still rate as one of my favourites in London.
Eagle is tucked away just off Oxford Street and prides itself as being one of the original American diners in London, but this somewhat does it a disservice as it feels more classy than you would imagine.

It’s a little tough not be disappointed when you’re told that you are visiting a “Gorilla.” Obviously I wasn’t hoping for actual gorilla, but I still had something jungley in mind. Who would have expected radical militarist burgers?

I promised myself that I’d do no more delayed burger reviews. And so here’s one from before Christmas – Bill Wyman’s Sticky Fingers, just off High Street Kensington. Chosen for our group Christmas dinner not least because it had half price cocktails and half price on a Monday night.

I’ve been hankering to visit to the Queens Arms for quite a while, not least because its the nearest pub to college and is reputed to serve some decent food. It’s also the location of the mysterious”XXXX’s” house in Matthew Vaughan’s film Layer Cake – one of my favourite. In other news, they also cook up a pub burger.

Onto Gourmet Burger Kitchen, probably not the original gourmet burger joint, but most definitely the people who made the idea of eating proper burgers popular within the UK. They have huge number of chains throughout the England, and serve some pretty consistent fare across the few that I’ve visited.
The menu is quite complete with everything from the normal beef burgers to creations with buffalo meat, beetroot and avocado.

The Diner brings to mind something along the lines of the first and last scenes of a Pulp Fiction type American diner…and that isn’t really that far off, in dark modern kind of way. Just with less stick ups (fortunately), and less Samuel L Jackson (unfortunately).
I’d heard of The Diner through various internet searches, but hadn’t actually been meaning to visit it today. My abysmal directional sense leading me astray.

And here it is! My ma-hussively delayed review of the Waggoners burger in Welwyn. Mahussive might not be a completely legitimate word, but its more than appropriate for the subject of this review. Also, even though this review appears to have been posted around September, I didn’t get round to writing this up for a month – my iPhone photographer let me down.

A long ride round the slightly grim Piccadilly line is nicely broken up by stopping for lunch (assuming you aren’t being extorted £1.60+ per ride…). And where better than Byron, a chain of restaurants throughout London that claim “proper hamburgers”, through the use of high quality ingredients.

My first post from the UK, and where better than a pub? Well for a start, it’s technically not in London, and I actually came with no intention of burgering… but it was difficult to turn down the offer of a hand made patty.

On my way to catch a film (Salt – not worth it) at the Orchard Cineleisure I happened by the Burger Bench and Bar, another outlet of sorts from wildrocket who also run the reasonably rated Relish. B3 as they call themselves, aims at a market closer to fast food however.
